Seven Inmates Escape Ilesa Prison After Heavy Downpour as FG Launches Manhunt

The Federal Government has launched a manhunt for seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, following a heavy downpour that compromised the prison’s security in the early hours of Tuesday.

Spokesman for the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Abubakar Umar, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m., attributing the breach to a force majeure caused by the rainfall.

In response, the Comptroller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.

The service said it is working in collaboration with other security agencies and local community leaders to track down and recapture the escapees. It also appealed to the public to provide any useful information that could aid in their arrest.
