Police Arrest 22 Suspected Kidnappers and Gun-Runners, Recover Cache of Arms in Nationwide Crackdown Across Six States

In a major breakthrough in the fight against crime, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested 22 suspected kidnappers and gun-runners, recovering a cache of arms and ammunition during coordinated operations across multiple states.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the arrests were made following intensified intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal gangs threatening national security.

According to him, on April 25, 2025, operatives of the FID Special Tactical Squad (STS), in collaboration with the Taraba State Police Command, local hunters, and vigilante groups, apprehended four suspected kidnappers in Mararaban Abbare, Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State. The suspects—Shehu Ibrahim, Abdullahi Haruna, Yusuf Bello, and Mohammed Bako—were caught while planning an operation and were found in possession of two AK-49 rifles, one AK-47 rifle, six magazines, and 45 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Adejobi revealed that prior intelligence linked the suspects to a notorious gang responsible for kidnappings in Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Plateau, Bauchi, and Kaduna States. A follow-up raid on the gang’s hideout led to the arrest of six more suspects—Sulaiman Mohammed, Tijjani Bello, Muhammed Umar, Adamu Ibrahim, Solomon Nathaniel, and Haruna Adamu—along with additional rifles and magazines.

In a related development on April 17, 2025, police operatives in Kaduna arrested Isa Ibrahim, a suspected kidnapper who confessed to relocating to the state to form a new gang after his former group was dismantled in Kwara. That same day, two other suspects, Sani Liman and Murtala Magaji, were apprehended in Lamido village, Lere LGA, and admitted their involvement in kidnapping activities.

Further operations on April 18 led to the arrest of suspected gun-runners Bajo Badun and Magaji Abdullahi, who were found with two fabricated AK-47 rifles. Another suspect, Ishiyaku Ali, was caught along the Kauru-Pambegua Road with two locally-made rifles and a long chain hidden in a sack.

Adejobi confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the efforts of the operatives and reassured the public of the Force’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.
