Rivers PDP Battles Sole Administrator Over Governance, Rejects Allegations Against Fubara

Rivers PDP Accuses Sole Administrator of Governance Disruption, Rejects Allegations Against Fubara, Challenges Tinubu’s Emergency Rule

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibom Ibas (retd.), of systematically dismantling governance structures established by suspended Governor Siminialayi Fubara. The party also strongly condemned allegations made by former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, labeling him a "serial betrayer" allegedly acting under the influence of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers PDP Chairman Nname Ewor criticized the federal government’s decision to impose a state of emergency in the state, arguing that it was unwarranted. Ewor maintained that there was no war, natural disaster, or security crisis severe enough to justify such a drastic measure. He accused the Sole Administrator of working against the interests of the state by reversing policies and governance structures implemented by Fubara’s administration.

Ewor further dismissed allegations made by Dr. Nwaeke, who had claimed that Governor Fubara was involved in the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly and had pledged support for Senator Bala Mohammed’s potential 2027 presidential bid. According to Ewor, these claims were baseless and intended to discredit the governor. He alleged that Nwaeke was being used as a tool by Wike to spread falsehoods and mislead the public.

“Dr. Nwaeke, highly compromised and a serial betrayer, has willingly become a pawn in the hands of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike,” Ewor stated. “His claims against Governor Fubara, the PDP, and even the Nigerian Labour Congress are nothing more than fabrications designed to mislead the public and weaken our democratic institutions.”

Ewor also referenced the legal status of the House of Assembly bombing case, pointing out that those initially arrested were charged to court but later freed due to lack of diligent prosecution. He emphasized that no evidence linked Governor Fubara or his allies to the incident.

Legal Backlash Against Tinubu’s Decision

In a separate development, retired Justice Miakpor Emiaso, former President of the Delta State Customary Court, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to release Rivers State’s allocation to the Sole Administrator. Justice Emiaso described the move as unconstitutional and a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s democracy.

“It is unlawful. It is unconstitutional. You cannot release funds to a sole administrator,” Emiaso asserted. “The Nigerian Constitution does not provide for the appointment of a sole administrator to govern a state. Any action taken by such an administrator is null and void.”

He further argued that the suspension of an elected governor violates the democratic process and could set a precedent for the arbitrary removal of state leaders. “If the president can suspend one governor, what stops him from suspending others? This is not democracy, and it is certainly not in the spirit of our constitution,” he added.

Setting the Record Straight

The PDP insisted that Nwaeke’s claims were deliberate attempts to manipulate public perception and undermine the credibility of the Fubara administration. The party also pointed out inconsistencies in Nwaeke’s statements, especially regarding his claim that he witnessed Fubara allegedly financing the House of Assembly attack.

“The truth is that those arrested in connection with the incident were detained for over eight months before the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence,” Ewor explained. “Yet, Nwaeke and his co-conspirators are still peddling falsehoods to tarnish the governor’s reputation.”

Regarding the alleged promise of support for Bala Mohammed in 2027, Ewor dismissed the claim as absurd, stating that there was no official declaration by the Bauchi State Governor regarding any presidential ambition.

“These fabrications are designed to pitch the president against our governor,” he said. “But they will fail because the people of Rivers State and Nigerians at large know the truth.”

The crisis in Rivers State continues to unfold, with tensions rising between political factions. As accusations and counter-accusations intensify, the future of governance in the oil-rich state remains uncertain.
