Osun Governor Warns Monarchs: Violence Will Cost You Your Throne

Governor Adeleke Issues Fresh Warning to Osun Monarchs, Threatens Removal of Traditional Rulers in Communities Where Violence Resurfaces

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Monday, issued a stern warning to traditional rulers in the crisis-prone communities of Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin-Osun, threatening removal if violence resurfaces in their domains.

The governor had previously cautioned the traditional rulers over the spate of violent clashes in their towns before easing the curfew from 24 hours to 17 hours last week. However, following intelligence reports of plans by unidentified individuals to launch fresh attacks, Adeleke declared that any monarch whose community experiences renewed violence would be stripped of their title.

A statement from his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, read in part:

“In the midst of Sallah celebrations, I received reports of some people planning another round of conflict in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun. Security agencies have intensified surveillance to prevent any outbreak of violence.

“The security forces are also accelerating the interrogation of key figures linked to the unrest. Let me remind the leaders of these towns that the peace agreements they have signed are not mere formalities. They will be held accountable. There will be legal consequences.

“We relaxed the curfew out of humanitarian consideration, knowing that many innocent people were suffering due to the actions of a few troublemakers. However, if anyone exploits this adjustment to reignite violence, the 24-hour curfew will be fully reinstated.

“Furthermore, I will not hesitate to remove any traditional ruler in a community where violence erupts again. This decision is firm. The royal fathers must take charge and ensure peace among their people. Enough is enough.”
