Anambra Government Shuts Down Okija Shrine Over Fraud Allegations

Anambra Government Seals Okija Shrine, Cracks Down on Fake Native Doctor Accused of Deceiving Residents With Promises of Instant Wealth

The Anambra State Government has sealed a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area, following multiple complaints from residents.

The shrine, operated by a self-proclaimed native doctor, Ekene Igboegbueze, was allegedly used to lure unsuspecting individuals with promises of instant wealth. Authorities shut it down as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal spiritual practices.

Leading the operation on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, stated that the action was in response to reports from locals. He confirmed that Igboegbueze’s activities violate Anambra State Homeland Security Laws and that all items found in the shrine will undergo forensic examination to determine further action.

Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, warned youths against patronizing fake spiritual leaders, emphasizing that such practices fuel a dangerous "get-rich-quick" mentality. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to eradicating fraudulent spiritual operations and urged young people to seek legitimate means of livelihood.
